シーン1　◆アリーのアパート（夜） ヴォンダ ♪そして やどりぎ（ミスレトウ）の下で あなたのことを／もっと知りたいの 今年のクリスマス／ツリーを飾れば どんなに楽しいだろう Hang all the mistletoe I'm gonna get to know you better This Christmas, and as we trim the tree How much fun it's gonna be ... アリーの心の声 （ツリーの飾りつけをしている）　大好きなクリスマス。日常の煩わしさから、ゆいいつ解放されるこの時期、だれもが笑顔を交わしあう。てっぺんに飾るお星様。パパが言ってた。てっぺんに星を飾ろうと手を伸ばすたびに、人生の輝きもいちだんと増していくって。あぁ、あー。 I love Christmas. All the things that bug me during the year don't bug me at Christmas. People smiling, me smiling ... The star's the best part. But we're having a little difficulty with the church regarding the memorial service. ビリー What difficulty? リチャード Well, he was a bit of eccentric, and his ---- ジョン Er, excuse me. I'd first like to give pose to absorb his passing. Can we all take a moment? 　 　（黙とう） リチャード Excellent. Anyway, there is things marked my uncle's life one being his distaste for short people. The minister is refusing to let that part of him being memorialized. My aunt and I feel it should be included. シーン4　◆教会 牧師 ふつうは、弔辞に口出しなぞ絶対にしないが、小柄な人をこの場でこきおろされるのは許せんのだ。 I don't typically edit eulogies. Believe me, I don't. But I can't just let you get up there and unload on small people. リチャード こきおろすなんて。 I won't be unloading. 牧師 そうなるのは目に見えている。 Oh, come on. Richard, I knew your uncle. ビリー ですが、ハンソンさんの奇抜な人生観を、本人の追悼式で語るのは許されるんじゃないでしょうか？ Reverend, Mr. Hanson's life was made up of a lot of eccentricities. We should be allowed to talk about that. 牧師 限度ってものがあるだろ？　この教会では絶対にそのような・・・ There have to be limits. Now, I won't allow this church get involved ---- リチャード 建物の半分は伯父が建てたようなもんです。 But my uncle helped build half this church! 牧師 リチャード、そう困らせるな。信者にだって小柄な人が大勢いる。 Richard, be reasonable. And, believe me, my board knows the money is at stake. They've already ordered me to wear lifts. But I won't allow you to get up there at the podium and talk about your uncle hating little people. シーン5　◆裁判所。ステファニーとの接見会場 アリー いい？　取るべき道は二つあるけど、どっちにも難点があるから。そのへん、よく考えてね。 Okay. We have two different ways to go on this, and they both have negative sides. So, you're going to have to think about it. ステファニー わかった。 Okay. アリー 一つめは、有罪を認めること。減刑してもらうには一番いい手だけど、それでも刑務所は免れないかも。 Okay. We could plea, and that would be your best chance to reduced sentenc. But it would still mean jail time. ステファニー 刑務所？ Prison? アリー そう・・・。もちろん、交渉はするけど。前の2回を考えると、多少は入ることになると思うわ。 Well ... I could ask for ==, but ... with your two previous convictions, Stepahnie, we are looking at some time. ステファニー じゃ、その・・・二つめの方法は？ Well, wh- ... what was the other way to go? アリー それは、あん・・・無罪を主張するの。そういう事実はなかったって。でも問題は、客引きした相手がおとり捜査の刑事だったってこと。前の2回もあるから、勝てる見込みがあるとは思えない。裁判やって負けた場合には・・・有罪認めた場合より刑期も長くなるだろうし・・・。 Well, um ... we could plead not guilty and try to win on the elements. And ... the problem there is that you solicited an undercover cop, and ... with the two priors, I, I really don't think we could win. And if we lost, once we were in trial, we'd be looking at more jail time than we would be on a plea. 　 ＜かめっより＞　elements って、どういう意味だろう？　だれかご存知ないですか？

シーン6　◆アリーとレネのアパート（夜） レネ ファイルをなくせって？ Lose the file? アリー ねえ、お願い、レネ。大したことじゃないじゃない？　ただ、こそっと・・・ Oh come on, Renee. I don't ask for that much. Why, why can't you just ---- レネ 検事局からファイルを盗んで紛失しろ？　その子の？ You want me to steal the file and lose it? So that he can ---- アリー だって、あの顔見たらわかるって！ If you could have seen his face! レネ 顔なら見たよ。たしかに美形だけど、でも、ファイルは盗めない。 I've seen his face. He's gorgeous. シーン7　◆ステファニーのアパート ステファニー どちら様？ Who is it? アリー ステファニー？　アリーよ。 Stephanie, it's Ally. ステファニー ああ・・・ちょっと待ってくれる？ Oh. Can you wait one second? アリー ええ。 Sure. ステファニー どうも。 Hey. アリー こんばんは。あー、あの・・・ああ・・・ごめんね、突然おじゃまして。 Hey. Hey. Um ... oh ... I am sorry to intrude. ステファニー そんな。いいのよ、そんなこと。 Oh. シーン8　◆法廷 判事 ここに座ってウン十年、多少のことじゃ驚きません。でもこれには、とてもついて行けない。 I've been sitting on the bench long enough to appreciate anything original. But this takes it to a next level. ビリー ケヴィン・ハンソンは、幼少より何度となく、背の低い人に悩まされてきました。さまざまな実体験が、その人のものの見方や人格を形成します。 Kevin Hanson's life was marked by several experiences with short people. People, in advance, who affected not just his life, but influenced who he became. 判事 偏見も？ A bigot. ビリー ええ、たしかに偏見もありました。そういう人だったんです。 In part, a bigot -- yes. But why should I force the church to be a forum for it? ビリー この教会がハンソン氏の教会だったからです。 Because this church was his church. 判事 偏見に対して世の中は厳しくなる一方ですよね？　差別禁止法ができているのはご存じ？ But we tend to us sticking against bigotry these days. Have you noticed the rash of civil rights laws? ビリー 差別禁止法は、憲法に反する分類を禁じるものです。最初は人種で、その次が宗教。次に性別がきて、いま問題になってるのは性的し好です。しかし背丈については問題になっていませんし、もしもなっていたとしても、だから何です？　ケヴィン・ハンソンはいい人間でした、ある面では。べつの面では問題もあった。リチャードはそんな伯父さんの思い出を語りたいだけなんです。 Civil rights laws identify suspect classes. First it was race. Then came religion. Next it was gender. Now we're up to sexual orientation. But there's no special protection for short people. And even if there was, so what? Kevin Hanson was a good man in some ways, and not so good man in others. シーン9　◆ケイジ＆フィッシュ事務所。トイレ ジョン アリー。 Ally? アリー あー！！　ちょっと・・・なによ？　あー・・・。この事務所には、どこにもプライバシーってもんがないわけ？ Aah!! ... Is there no respect for privacy in this place? ジョン エレインが20分もこもりきりだって言ってたから、たぶん生理的欲求より精神的なほうかなって。なにかあったんじゃない？ Elaine told me you've been in here for twenty minutes. I suspected it was more about solitude than use of the facility. Is everything okay? アリー そうねえ、なんて言うか・・・。あなたとコールガールの過去は置いとくとして、いままでに性犯罪者の弁護したことあるでしょ？ Well ... I don't know. Not to take into your history with call girls, but did you ever defend a sex offender in court? ジョン あ・・・ああ・・・。ラー、ラーララララ・・・。いまの質問は聞かなかったことにしよう。 Eh, uh ... la la la la la la la ... I think we've carried this far enough. リチャード ここのシニアパートナーは俺だ。どういう意味かわかるだろ？ Last time I checked, I was senior partner here. That means you ---- ビリー だから何だ？　ちゃんと主張すべきことはした。あとは判事がどう決定するかで・・・ I don't care! I'm not being stupid about it. We made the argument, the judge will rule ---- リチャード その主張を書面で明確にすれば、いい決定が出るかもしれないだろ（？） The judge will rule in our favor, maybe if we support our position ---- ビリー 何なんだよ、これ？　大事な伯父さんじゃなかったのか？ What the hell is this about it? I thought you loved your uncle. リチャード 何だって？ What? ビリー だってそうだろ？　追悼式で伯父さんのチビ嫌いを話すのの、一体どこが哀悼の意になるんだよ？　死人にムチ打つようなもんじゃないか？ What's in a tribute you getting up and saying that hey, he hated short people? I think, I think you want trust this --- リチャード 俺のやることに口出しするな！　余計なお世話だ！！　・・・　伯父の意志なんだ。いいか、伯父が望んだことなんだ。だから責めるな。　・・・　伯父は、ちゃんと落とし前をつける。 Don't tell me what I can or I cannot! YOU SHUT UP!!! ... シーン11　◆ボストンの街（夜） ヴォンダ ♪孤独をもう少し／さまようべきなのか 昔はもっと／強かったはずなのに 独り流れ着いた／この見知らぬ街 人生の長さが／重くのしかかる Maybe I should wander in my solitude a little longer Turn your head now sailor, well I used to be so much stronger How in the hell did I get here, in this city so alone? Oh, sometimes life seems so long アリー 命を大切に。 You'll die this way. ステファニー なんでここだってわかったの？ So, how did you know I'd be here? アリー アパート行ったらいなかったし、繁華街ってこの辺だけだから。 You weren't at your apartment, and the combat zone isn't so big. ステファニー 稼がなきゃ飢え死にしちゃう。 I still need to eat. アリー いまから精神分析の先生に診てもらうの。法廷に診断書出したいから。ほら、早く。うちに先生呼んであるの。 We need to go see a psychologist tonight. We have to get a medical opinion before we go to court. Come on. I've got a doctor coming to the house. ステファニー なんでここまでやるの？　前の弁護士なんて、2人あわせて10分かかんなかったのに。 Why are you doing this?
