第4シーズンのクリスマス・エピソード（第8話も、そうです）。「♪It's coming on Christmas...」で始まるラリーこと、Robert Downey Jr.のピアノの弾き語り「River」（シーン16）は、アリーのサントラ「A Very Ally Christmas」に収録。2001年12月20日ＵＰ。（2001年11月23日放送）☆☆☆

シーン1　◆ボストンの街（夜）

アリー	あ、そっと、そっと、ゆっくり！
	Uh, easy, easy, easy!
ラリー	ちょっとさあ、早すぎない、ツリー買うの？
	You know, uh, isn't it a little early for a tree?
アリー	クリスマスはツリーを飾った時点で始まるの。クリスマス精神が1週間長く続けば、世の中のためになるし。　（クラクションを鳴らされる）　もう！　うるさいなあ！
	The Christmas season starts as soon as you put up your tree. I think the world could, uh, extend the yuletide spirit a week, you know. (honks) Ahh, bite me!
ラリー	ああ、立派な精神だ。
	Ah, there's a spirit.
アリー	ツリーの飾り付けしたら、ソファで電球がチカチカするの眺めて、エッグノッグを作るの～。
	Now, and you put up the tree, you decorate it, you sit on the couch, == twinkly lights, you make eggnog ----
ラリー	クリスマスはきらいだ。
	I always hated Christmas.
アリー	！！
ラリー	おっと。もっと関係が出来てから言うべきだった？
	Uh-oh. I should have saved that for later in the relationship.
アリー	んー、クリスマスがきらいな人とつきあってく自信ないかも。
	Mmm, I don't know if I can be with a man who hates Christmas.
ラリー	ソファの羽毛にアレルギーがあるんだ。エッグノッグはコレステロールが高い。ツリーは火災の原因になるし、飾り電球は発作を誘発する。
	I'm allergic to the down feathers in the couch, and there's cholesterol in eggnog. The tree is a fire-hazard, and twinkly lights can cause seizures.
アリー	それが、クリスマスがきらいな理由？
	That's why you hate Christmas?
ラリー	それと・・・いつも独りだから。
	That and ... I'm always alone.
アリー	あぁ。それなら、今年のクリスマスは独りなんかじゃない。
	Oh. Well, you're not going to be alone this Christmas.
ラリー	もう一度言ってくれる？
	Could you say that again please.
アリー	あなた、今年のクリスマスは絶対、独りにはならない。

リチャード	まずは、あー、スティーブンス対ＷＫＧＢ。ジョン？
	First up, uh, Stevens vs. WKGB. John?
ジョン	そうだ。
	Yes.
リチャード	何？　「そうだ」？　どういう事件、ＷＫＧＢって？　何なの、ロシアのスパイがらみとか？
	What, yes? What's the case, WKGB? What, is it a Russian spy thing or ...?
ジョン	ＷＫＧＢはニュースをやってるローカル局だよ。なにげなく見てるはずだ。夜、エロ番組探してチャンネルを変えてる時に。
	WKGB is a local news station, Richard. Perhaps you caught it at night inadvertently, while surfing your little titty shows.
リチャード	ああ、言うねえ。キャスター、ラテン系の女じゃない？　巨乳の。
	Uh ... uh, funny. A Latin anchor woman, uh, uh, big breasts?
ジョン	キャスターの一人が彼女。
	One of the anchors, yes.
リチャード	もう、ぶるんぶるんもの。

ジョン	もう一人が朝担当のケンドール・スティーブンスで、最近解雇された。だから、局を不当解雇で訴えることにした。リンにはサブで活躍してもらう。
	Another's Kendall Stevens, he does the morning news. He was recently discharged. We're suing the news station for wrongful termination. Ling is my worthy second chair.
リチャード	何でクビになったの？
	W-why was he fired?
ジョン	赤裸々すぎる真実を語ったせいだ。朝のニュースで、サンタクロースはいないと言ったんだ。視聴者の怒りを買い、局側は解雇に踏み切った。
	He was terminated for excessive truth telling. He announced on the morning newscast that there was no Santa Claus. There was public outrage, resulting in his discharge.
アリー	サンタクロースはいないって言ったの？
	He said that there was no Santa Claus?
リン	あなた知らなかった？
	You didn't know?
アリー	何でそんなことするの？
	Well, how could he do that?
ネル	もう、やめてよ。サンタクロースなんてアブナイだけ。妖精をいじめる太った酔っぱらいじゃない？　子供、ひざにのっけておもちゃ約束するのは小児性愛者っぽいし。その依頼人、えらいわ。
	Oh, please. He's nothing but a dangerous myth. The fat, washed-out alcoholic fiddles with elves. He's a pedophile too, gets kids to sit on his lap while promising toys. I salute our client.
ジョン	去年はサンタクロースのファンだって言ってたのに。
	Last year you said you loved Santa Claus.
ネル	去年はトレンドだったけど、今年は終わってる。
	He was in last year. Now he's out.
リチャード	ん・・・じゃ。
	Uh ...

シーン3　◆大きいオフィススペース
ラリー	やあ。
	Hey!
アリー	ラリ～。
	Larry.
ラリー	おはよう。
	Sweetie.
アリー	ん～　（ちゅっちゅ）　どうしたの、急に？
	Mmm, What are you doing?
ラリー	むしょうに顔が見たくなって。
	Fine. I missed you. It's only 9:30.
アリー	んー、それうれしい。
	Mmm, that's sweet.
エレイン	（アリーの頭をバキ！）　ここは職場なんだから。ぶちゅぶちゅやるなら、どっかよそでやってくれる？
	This is a workplace. Could you drip over each other someplace else?
アリー	なんか・・・問題があるみたい。フフ、あー、ちょっと待っててくれるかな。すぐに戻ってくるから、待ってて。ごめん。
	Okay, um ... something's wrong. Um, can you excuse me for ... just a little ... bit of a ... second.
リチャード	よお、ラリー。もう寝たの？　イエスかノーでいいよ。俺には関係ないから。雇い主としちゃあ、弁護士にハングリーな泥くささが欲しいわけ。もし満足しちゃってるなら知っとかないと。クライアントと事務所のために。でどうなの、あれは？　あ・・・
	Larry, hey. Slept with her yet? Not my business, so, yes or no, it suffice. Look, I, I run a business here, I need my litigators hungry, ornery. You know, if she's being satiated in any way, I need to know -- protect the client, the firm. So, you two, uh ...?
ラリー	アリーからいろいろウワサを聞いたけど、信じがたかった。
	Ally's told me so much about you, and I've ... believed so little of it.
リチャード	なんか、目立つたちでね。話題になりやすい。
	Well, I make ==, all my life.
ラリー	これでまた話題になるよ。

リチャード	そう？　ありがとう、それは。

シーン4　◆アリーのオフィス
アリー	いつもなんだって話してきたじゃない？　おたがいにどんな悩みでも全部、あらいざらい。
	Well, we've always talked to each other, Elain. When there's a problem, you and I, we talk.
エレイン	今回のこれは、あなたも一因だから。
	It's just, you know, you're part of the problem.
アリー	だったらなおさら・・・。私が？
	Well then, you just ... I am??
エレイン	あなたが幸せでとってもうれしい。それはほんと。ジョンとキミーのことも喜んでるし、リチャードとリンをねたむ気もない。だけど、どこ見てもカップルの幸せような笑顔にきしょくわるいぶちゅぶちゅシーンじゃ、とても身がもたない。独りの自分にキレそう。暗くふさぎこむだけじゃ、もうダメ。だから機関銃ぶっ放してカップルを一層したい気分。幸せぼけした間抜けな笑顔のぶちゅぶちゅバカップル！
	I am happy for your happiness, Ally. I really am. I'm thrilled for John and Kimmy, I don't begrudge Richard and Ling. I just ... I see couples everywhere. Happy, smiling, disgusting kissy-face couples, and it's making me sick. I'm tired of being alone. And where I used to mope and feel sorry for myself, now I just want to get a machine gun and mow down all the couples. The stupid, smiling, sucky-face, happy pigs!
アリー	ああ・・・
	Ah ...
エレイン	それに、じきクリスマス。これがもう最悪。うちでテレビ見てると、テーマはどれも愛と喜び。つい気が滅入ってお酒に手が出る。次に気がつくと、どっかのバーで知らない人に体差し出そうとしてる。
	And Christmas is coming. This is the worst. I sit at home, all the TV shows are about love and joy, and I get depressed and I have a drink. And the next thing I know, I'm at some bar with some total stranger, offering up my vagina.
アリー	それは、その・・・
	Well, you ...
ラリー	音楽好き？
	Do you like music?
エレイン	何それ？
	I'm sorry?
ラリー	歌が好きって、アリーに聞いたから。僕もそう。だから空しくなると、ま、たいてい12月だけど、夜、ピアノに向かうことにしている。それでちょっと歌うわけ。いいよ、元気が出る。音楽って最高の心の友だから。
	Well, Ally tells me that you love music. As do I. In fact, when I'm feeling empty -- which I always do in December -- I sit at my piano and I, and I just, you know, sing a little. You know, you'd surprised what a ... incredible companion music can be.

	It's more about applause with me. Without a stage and an audience, I have no use for music.

	They try to discourage it. They say I make it all about me.
ラリー	ふん・・・とにかく君は元気が出る曲を探しておいて。ステージで歌えるように段取り付けてみるから。
	Hmm. What you need to do is find a song that makes you feel better. I, I'm sure we can arrange to get you onstage.
エレイン	分かった。ありがとう。
	Okay. Thank you.
ラリー	何？
	What?
アリー	びっくりだな。実に巧みな、あー・・・人心操作。キミー・タイプに、エレイン・タイプまでカバーしてるとは。
	Well, it's just, uh, the way that you, um ... handle the Kimmies and the Elaines of the world.
ラリー	アリー・タイプはカバーできてる？
	How do I handle the Allies?
アリー	なんでクリスマスがカバーできないかなあ。
	Tell me why you can't handle Christmas.
ラリー	どき。

シーン5　◆法廷。原告スティーブンスの証言（ｂｙジョン）
ビデオの中の
スティーブンス	親はあなた達を愛しているからそう言うのです。サンタクロースとトナカイの夢物語を子供らしい気持ちで楽しんでほしいから、親は子供時代に自分が聞かされたウソを、そのまま皆さんに話します。わくわくするクリスマス気分を引き立てるために。だから、親につきあってサンタクロースを信じているふりをするのは悪いことではありません。おとぎ話を楽しむのと同じです。「ジャックと豆の木」だとかイースター・バニーやピーターパンのように。でも、巨人が金のガチョウを追って空から落っこちてきたり、イースターにうさぎがチョコレートの卵を隠しにこないのといっしょで、サンタクロースが煙突からやって来ることはないんです、実際には。以上、ケンドール・スティーブンスでした。
	Your parents will tell you he's real because they love you. They want you to enjoy the myth of Ho-ho-ho and sugar plums and Els. They'll tell all the lies to you as their parents told to them because they want to surround you with the magic feeling that goes with Christmas. And it's all right to pretend along with your parents that there really is such a thing as Santa Claus. Enjoy it like a good story as much as you would Jack and the Beanstalk or the Easter Bunny or Peter Pan. But no giant's going to fall out of the sky, chasing a golden goose; no rabbit's going to sneak into your house with chocolate eggs. And == any Santa Claus's coming down your chimney for real. This is Kendall Stevens.
ジョン	神話を一刀両断ですね。
	Shattered quite a few myth there, Kendall.
スティーブンス	このニュースを見ている子供ならもう知ってるはずですし、まだなら、知っておくべきです。
	Any child old enough be watching the news probably already knows, and if not, he or she should.
ジョン	どうして？
	Why?
スティーブンス	いずれ知ることになるからです。しかも上のきょうだいや学校の友達から聞かされると、衝撃がかなり大きい。私もいまだに覚えていますが、裏切られた、と感じましたよ。親にウソをつかれたんです。私の息子も7歳の時に上級生から聞かされて、帰ってくるなり私に向かって言いました、「信じてたのに」。それで悟りました。これは子供にとっては根元的なウソです。
	Because at some point, he's going to know. And if the news comes from an older sibling or another kid from school, it won't be broken gently. I remember the day I found out; it was a huge betrayal -- my parents had lied to me. My son, when he found out at the age of seven from an older kid at school, he came home, he looked at me, he said, "I trusted you." It's when I realized. This is a fundamental lie to children.

シーン6　◆引き続き、スティーブンスへの反対尋問（ｂｙストーン）
ストーン	事前にプロデューサーにお伺いを立てましたか？
	Did you tell your producers that you were going to say this on the air?
スティーブンス	いいえ。
	No.
ストーン	つまりあなたは、プロデューサーを公然と無視して、局を困った立場に・・・
	So, you knowingly defied the producers and exposed the station to a negative ----
スティーブンス	一般受けしないのは分かっていました。
	I knew that it wouldn't be popular.
ストーン	でも何です？　ニュースだった？
	But what? It was news?
スティーブンス	これは真実です。放送で話したことには賛否両論あるでしょうが、ニュースキャスターが真実を語ってクビになるのは絶対におかしい。
	It was the truth. As much as you may disagree with my decision to broadcast it, a newsman should never be fired for broadcasting the truth.

シーン7　◆レストラン
ジョン	ショックだったのを覚えてるよ。母と買い物をしてた時だ。デパートのサンタさんにだっこされて、僕の欲しい蒸気機関車はどんなのかを説明したんだ。緑で、線が赤いやつ、って。で、デパートを出て街角にやって来ると、そこにまたサンタがいて、ベルを鳴らしてる。黒い服を着てね。おかしいと思った。着替えをして移動するにはあまりに速すぎる。でも、なんといってもサンタだ。魔法もあるだろう。するとそのサンタが、まったく初対面だというふうに、こう聞いた、「さあて、坊やはクリスマスに何が欲しいのかな」。それではっきり悟ったんだ、全部いんちきなんだって。
	I remember when I found out. I was shopping with my mother. I sat on the department store Santa, told him all about the special, uh, steam train I wanted, "It's green witn red stripes." Then we left the store, came to a street corner, and there was Santa again, ringing a bell. And he was black. I thought, "Well, that's odd. Got from here to there so fast and changed color." But I thought, "He's Santa. He's magic." And then, he looked at me with no recognition whatsoever and said, "Well, little one, what would you like for Christmas?" And I knew right then this whole thing was a fraud.
キミー	あんまりよ、かわいそう。私は大学1年まで気づかなかったわ。
	That's awful. I didn't find out till my freshman year in college.
ジョン	ほんと、筋金入りの箱入り娘だったんだね。
	You have been really sheltered your whole life, haven't you?
キミー	ああ・・・世間が思うほどじゃないのよ。ロックスターともデートしたし。
	Well ... not as much as people think. I dated a rock star.
ジョン	ほんとに？
	You did?
キミー	1回きりだけど。コンサートのあと知り合って、小一時間つきあったところでニギニギしろって迫られて逃げたから、一瞬ね。
	Well, one date. I met him after the concert. I'd only known him an hour when he asked me to touch his willy. So, pretty short ==.
ジョン	それでも、結びつかないな。君とロックスター？
	Still, the idea of you, uh ... and a rock star?
キミー	実は私、歌手とかそういう系統の人としかデートしたことないの。
	Actually, every boy I ever dated was a singer of some sort.
ジョン	そうなの？
	Really?
キミー	歌える人って大好きなの。理由は分からないけど。あなた歌える？
	I lo-o-ove singers. I don't know why. Do you sing?
ジョン	僕？　んー、あ、いや・・・。まあね、あの、大学でバンドのボーカルをやってた。
	Me? I ... mmm ... yeah, I ha, I had a band in, in college.
キミー	まあ、ほんとに！
	You did?
ジョン	ああ、大したことないんだ。あの、ただのロックンロールで。
	Yeah, this is no big deal. It's just, uh, some rock and roll.
キミー	キャーキャー女の子に騒がれたりした？
	Did people go wild for you?
ジョン	ああ・・・まあ、かなり盛り上がったかな。もう大昔のこと。
	Uh ... they, yeah, I'd get pretty whipped up. But, uh, it was years ago.
キミー	クリスマスプレゼントに何が欲しいか決まっちゃった。
	I've decided. I know what I want for my Christmas present.
ジョン	何？
	What?
キミー	私のために、バーでなにか1曲、歌ってちょうだい。
	I want you to sing a song for me at the bar.
ジョン	あー、そりゃ・・・あー、その、無理だ。だってずっと・・・歌ってないんだよね。
	Oh, tha, uh ... uh, uh, uh, no, I ... I don't perform anymore.
キミー	だけど私のためなら、1曲ぐらい歌ってくれるでしょ？
	But you would sing one song just for me, right?
ジョン	それは　（ぴい）　鼻がチューニングしてる。
	Well, it ... It's my tuning nose.

シーン8　◆アリーのアパート。ビデオで「34丁目の奇跡」を見ている
ラリー	根っからクリスマスが好きなんだね。
	You really do love Christmas, don't you?
アリー	それは・・・そうよ。何でよ？　イヤ？
	Well ... yes. Why don't you?
ラリー	あーもう、またそれ？　決着は子供の名前付ける頃でどう？
	Uh-oh. It's an issue. Should we settle this before we start naming our children?
アリー	ねえ、冗談抜きで言っちゃうけど、で、もちろん時期尚早なのも厚かましいのも承知のうえでだけど、子供を持つ自信ないなあ、クリスマスはきらいって人と一緒には。
	You know, seriously, Larry, I ... I mean, realizing that it's a little premature to say it, not to mention presumptuous, but I might think twice about having children with a man who doesn't like Christmas.
ラリー	じゃ、もし結婚しても子供はパスすれはいい。ん？
	So, if we got married, we could just skip the children part.

ラリー	分かった。子供・・・もういるんだ。

ラリー	あー、罪悪感があって。

ラリー	ではなくて、息子のそばにいてやれないことに。それに、父親不在で大人になることにも。
	I'm ashamed that I don't see him every day, and I'm ashamed that he's grown up for the most part without his father.

	Well, where is he?
ラリー	デトロイトにいる。母親とね。

	I thought your ex-wife lived here in Boston.
ラリー	いるよ。

シーン9　◆ケイジ＆フィッシュ事務所。リチャードのオフィス
リチャード	何でボーカルやってたなんて言ったの？
	Why did you tell you were a singer?
ジョン	分からない。歌える人としかつきあったことないって聞かされて、気がついたら、バーで彼女のために歌う約束してた。
	I don't know. She, she was talking about how the men she loved sang, the next thing I know, I'm promising I do a number at the bar.
リチャード	何するって？
	You do what?
ジョン	それがクリスマス・プレゼント。もうどうしたらいいんだ。彼女が思ってるのは本物のボーカル、エンターテイナーだ。
	Yeah, as a Christmas present. What am I going to do? Richard, she's expecting a real singer, a performer.
リチャード	ジョン、その子、気に入ってんだろ？
	John, you care about this woman?
ジョン	ああ、そうだと思うけど。
	Uh, I believe I do, yeah.
リチャード	真剣な関係になる可能性も大？
	This could be something real -- you have with her?
ジョン	それも大いにありうるね。
	It's entirely possible.

	John, I, I could be wrong here, but there's nothing more fundamental to a relationship than honesty. If she finds out you've lied? You got to lie again here. == out of this one, am I right?
ジョン	ありがとう、リチャード。でも、僕はリスク承知で真実を明かす。
	Thank you, Richard. But I'm going to go out on a limb here, just tell her the truth.
リチャード	あまいな。

ジョン	昼一緒に食べるから、そこで打ち明ける。

シーン10　◆トイレ
マーク	もう歌決めた？
	Have you picked your song?
エレイン	まだ。ピタッとくるのじゃなきゃね。私の心に響いて、メロディがきれいで、歌詞が今の私に重なるようなの。
	No. I'm looking for the pefect one. Something that speaks to me, something pretty, something that coincides with my current self.
マーク	エレイン、悪く取るな、歌は好きだ、だけど、スポットライト浴びてさびしい自分をアピールするってのはどうかな。
	Elaine, I love music, don't get me wrong, but is this the way to address loneliness -- climbing into a spotlight for attention?
エレイン	注目してもらえればそれでいい、男のひとに。
	Well, that's what I look for in a man -- attention.
マーク	やけになってるとしか思えない。
	It just seems a little desperate to me.
エレイン	自分だって。ムスコ付きの女とつきあってたくせに。
	Oh, this from a man who dates women with schlongs.
マーク	・・・。
エレイン	ごめんなさい。今のは言いすぎた。マーク、私もう7年もちゃんとしたカレシがいないの。とっくにやけになってる。

シーン11　◆法廷。被告テレビ局側の証言（ｂｙストーン）
経営者	テレビ局は視聴者との信頼関係にの上に成り立っており、信頼に答える義務がある。キャスターにもそれを守るように指導しています。これは違反行為です。
	A television station has an obligatin to its viewing constituency. We build a trust with our audience. We expect our own personnel to honor that trust. This was a breach.
ストーン	つまり、サンタがいないと報じたことですね？
	Announcing that there is no Santa Claus?
経営者	そのとおり。視聴者から大変な怒りを買いました。地道に築き上げてきた局の信用はまる潰れだ。彼の反アメリカ、反クリスマス、反人間的な姿勢のせいでね。局のだれもが無念さに打ちのめされ、今も沈んでいます。このような局の良心を信頼してくれている視聴者への意思表示として、われわれは解雇するしかなかったのです。あのような悪意に満ちた辛らつな不意打ちをくらわせた不届き者は。
	Absolutely. We incurred the wrath of our trusted public. Goodwill that we'd worked many years to cultivate obliterated by his anti-American, anti-yuletide, anti-humanity standards. Everyone at WKGB is chagrined and remains chagrined. And as a gesture to our viewers who put their trust in our good name, our good station, we owed it to them to discharge the transgressor of this mean-spirited, unscripted, cynical proclamation.

シーン12　◆引き続き、被告テレビ局への反対尋問（ｂｙジョン）
ジョン	サンタ宣言のあと、視聴率は落ちましたか？

	There's got to be a law against this.

	Look over there.

キミー	そういう下品なジョークって、私苦手なので。
	I am not comfortable with coarse humor.
ラリー	だれか訴えるの？
	You're suing somebody?
キミー	ジョンに会いに来ただけです。サンタクロース事件の最終弁論やってるから。
	I'm here to see my John. He's giving his closing arguments in the Santa Claus case.

シーン25　◆法廷。ジョンの最終弁論
ジョン	子供が傷ついた証拠はどこにもない。まあ、スタークさんはお孫さんまで動員しましたが。でも実際にこの件で子供が傷ついたとすれば、それはサンタがいないと暴露されたからではなく、そのことによって親への不信感が芽生えたからです。ケンドール・スティーブンスは、親のウソを裏切りだと思ってはいけないと忠告したかっただけなのです。彼はこうも言っています。親の夢物語につきあってやれ、と。それはなぜか。それは、サンタが必要なのは、実はわれわれのほうだからです。子供たちよりもずっと、大人は現実社会に生きています。残酷でみにくい現実に日々さらされ、いやというほど思い知らされています、夢はめったにかなわないものだと。
	Where was the evidence that any child got hurt? Now, Mr. Stark called his own grandson into action. But the reality is that when kids do get hurt on this, it doesn't go to the reveal that there is no Santa Claus; it's the reveal that maybe their parents lied to them. Kendall Stevens, he was really counseling children not to feel betrayed by this deception. And he was also saying, "Let your parents indulge this illusion." Why? Well, because the fact is that we need Santa Claus much more than kids do. We're out there living in the real world, and it's harsh. We're exposed to ugly truths, we bear witness to evidence that dreams don't always come true.
ジョン	だから、12月がやって来るとほっとします。サンタの物語につかの間、ひたることができるから。無邪気な子供時代に戻れるから。あの当時のわくわくするお祭り気分や、幸福感、そして歌、大人が失ってしまった感覚。サンタは、子供という愛すべき宝物を親が追体験するための装置なのかもしれない。欲してるのは大人。子供たちが欲しているのは親の愛、それと信頼・・・そしてなにより、親という存在の輝きです。ケンドール・スティーブンスがあの放送をつうじて守ろうとしたのは、この神聖なるきずなだったのです。彼には子供たちの気持ちが分かっていました。ママとパパにウソ偽りがないと思えるほうが、サンタが煙突からやって来る幻想を持つよりずっとうれしい。親と子供が信頼をなくし、断絶する、それこそが悲劇だと彼は言いたかったのです。
	And when December comes along ... it's nice. It's nice to cling to Santa and all he represents -- to relive the innocence of childhood, to recapture those feelings of joy and magic and song, feelings that have long since left us. Santa is a device for the parents sometimes to experience the love and the gift of the child, and we need it. What the child actually needs is love and trust ... and yes, the magic of his parents. And it was that sacred union which Kendall Stevens was trying to safeguard with his broadcast. Knowing that a child craves the honesty of mom and dad a hell of a lot more than he needs the illusion of Old Saint Nick coming down a chimney. The severance of parent and child and their mutual trust -- that's the tragedy Kendall Stevens was trying to address.

ストーン	彼はサンタがいないことを公表する決意をし、そしてテレビ局の看板に大きな傷を付けました。それが局の希望や利益に反することだと分かっているうえで、そうしたのです。彼は雇い主の信頼を踏みにじりました。だから当然、局には彼を解雇する権利があるのです。
	He decides to tell the world there's no Santa Claus. He exposes the station to tremendous bad will, and he does so knowing that it is against the wishes and interests of the station. He violates the trust of his employer. So of course, we have the right to terminate him.

シーン27　◆ケイジ＆フィッシュ事務所。大きいオフィススペース
アリー	リチャード、人前で歌わせるなんて無謀だって。
	Richard, you can't let him get up on that stage. It's insane.
リチャード	本人が決めたことだ。
	Ally, it's his choice, it's not ---- アリー；だって、恥かくに決まってるじゃない。
	W-well, he will embarrass himself.
リチャード	アリー、俺は・・・
	Uh, what, I'm ----
アリー	友達なら・・・
	Friends are supposed to protect ...
マーク	ゆうべの歌、よかったよ。
	I thought you were great, Elaine.
エレイン	どうも。ご丁寧にありがとう。
	Thank you. I appreciate that.
マーク	デートの誘い、あった？
	Did you get any dates out of it?
エレイン	デートが目的じゃないから。
	It wasn't about getting a date.

	On the matter of Stevens vs. WKGB, on the count of wrongful termination, we find in favor of the defendant.
判事	陪審員の皆さん、どうもごくろうさまでした。閉廷します。
	Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, thank you for your service. We're adjourned.
リン	これって最低。
	That sucks.
ジョン	すまない、ケンドール。
	I'm sorry, Kendall.
